The Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency (HERQA)will begin offering licensure exams for graduates of certain medical programs beginning at the end of the current fiscal year. Currently, the Agency is preparing competence indicators forgraduates from the health officer, anesthesia, nursing and dentistry departments.

In a bid to support the government’s plan to transform Ethiopia’s economy from agrarian- to industrial-based, the Addis Ababa City Administration established the Industry Development Bureau on January 5, 2015. The Bureau will perform the duties of the former Addis Ababa Trade and Industry Bureau. Duties related to the trade activities of the city have also been transferred to the newly established Addis Ababa Trade Bureau.

Due to the failure of oil companies to import oil from Djibouti Port after the oil price reduction was made on December 8, 2014 by the Ministry of Trade, major cities such Bahir Dar and Dire Dawa are in desperate need of fuel, according to officials of the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy. Oil importing companies and dealers have declined to import oil and are highly engaged in ‘adulteration’ since the price reduction went into effect, according to the Ministry’s six month report presented at Ghion Hotel on January 5, 2014.
