Although this means they ought to make up half of all structures responsible for making decisions on behalf of societies, this has been more a dream than a reality in the past. However, this trend has been changing in recent years, as the information obtained from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a global organization of national parliaments, reveals.

The victory of Adwa was celebrated for 123rd time across Ethiopia on March 2, 2019. The celebration was more colourful in Addis Ababa where young women recreated the outfits of the women who marched out with the Ethiopian army to encourage and support the soldiers, often through traditional war songs. Although was not the first time when Ethiopian defeated Italians, Adwa is considered the first major victory of black people over Western colonizers.

Fuelled partly by exchange rate depreciations and widening fiscal deficits, average inflation across Africa stood at 7.2Pct in 2017, increasing from 5.6Pct in 2016, according to the African Trade Report published by the African Export-Import Bank  in July 2018. However, there was wide variation across countries. For instance, inflation remained high in several economic giants such as Egypt, Nigeria and Angola. On the other hand, countries like Swaziland, Mali and Cameroon exhibited the lowest inflation rates in 2017.
